Create your next short story, poem or playwriting from a bag of junk.

How can a bag of different pieces of junk inspire writing and story-telling? How can we connect the objects in the plastic bag through stories?

In this workshop we will generate and investigate systems to play with story and movement triggered from objects - and turn this into the development of characters, environments, situations, plotlines and poetry.

Anthropology of the Discard - facilatated by Dr. Kathryn Ricketts.

Stories have a very important place in our community and classrooms. Stories are so naturally triggered from artifacts and when we work from a conglomerate of objects opposed to just one, we begin to understand how our stories interconnect with others and how this reminds us of our connected humanity.

Fascinated by the wall of Value Village  (A Canadian chain of Second hand stores) where conglomerates of objects hang in plastic bags for the standard price of $2.99, Dr. Kathryn Ricketts outlines how she has collected these bags that are ‘bulging’ with compelling possible new narratives.

This workshop outlines an interactive exhibition illuminating the saliency of objects as triggers for performative storytelling. We will examine artifacts as emblems of lives lived, and lives that refuse to be seen in isolation of each other.

Wear comfortable clothing and be prepared to play with movement, voice and writing.

The workshop is in English.
